It is rare to find a book that tackles issues as diverse as Jungian
psychology, spirituality, metaphysics, somatic therapy and the New Age
in a single volume whle still doing justice to each individual. It is rarer
still to find a book whose diverse references together create a single,
whole, and very powerful theory. EASTERN BODY, WESTERN MIND is just such
a book. Straightforward in its organization, Anodea Judith's newest book
on the chakra system (following THE SEVENTEENTH JOURNEY and WHEELS OF LIFE)
explains this Eastern system by way of Western psychology. Arranged schematically,
the book uses the inherent structure of the chakra system (where the nurturing
of one particular theme leads directly to the nurturing of the next) as
a map upon which to chart our Western understanding of individual development.
The following list shows the orientation to self and basic rights involved
with each of the seven chakras: --Chakra One--Self-preservation; to be
here, to have --Chakra Two--Self-gratification; to feel, to want --Chakra
Three--Self-definition; to act --Chakra Four--Self-acceptance; to love
and be loved --Chakra Five--Self-expression; to speak and be heard --Chakra
Six--Self-reflection; to see --Chakra Seven--Self-knowledge; to know This
combinatiaon of Eastern and Western traditions realizes the spiritual nature
of personality development with the structural logic of the body. |
